Community Outreach

Each of our Get Golfing sites (through its Captain’s) is currently selecting a local charity that is being adopted as the Club’s designated charity for the next 3 years. This will replace the tradition of each section having their own charity, working independently and the relationship ending after a year.

We believe that by working together we can achieve more and not only raise funds for the local charity but build them into heart of each club.

We want to become hubs for our local communities to enjoy golf but also visit our amazing facilities and sites for a variety of social and wellbeing activities. Together with the Captain’s we have seen some great charities, who do amazing work within their local community.

We believe that by all sections working together on a common goal it will:

  • Create a better community within the club
  • Spread the workload
  • Create an exciting and varied social calendar open to everyone in our local communities that are well attended and inclusive
  • Maximise the awareness and engagement with the selected charity
  • Allow them to plan effectively as they will have sustained support over the 3 years
  • Allow them free access to our amazing facilities and spaces to expand their projects, capacity and impact on local people
  • Bring people together to work collaboratively and build upon the great traditions that our golf clubs have in raising much needed funds for local causes
  • Maximise the funds raised for the local charity as to allow expansion of their work and impact in our communities

Both the charity and club will receive support from the Get Golfing Community Outreach team, with dedicated event and fundraising training and the support of the marketing team to promote and maximise a variety of golfing and social activities for everyone to enjoy.

We are looking forward to the January launch of the 8 charities selected by our 8 sites and starting to build lasting relationships that will  make a real difference to the local communities that we serve.

This is just one element of Get Golfing’s Community Hub Program to enhance our golf clubs and share our beautiful sites with everyone. If you would like any further information please contact Yvonne Brooke, Community Outreach Coordinator at [email protected].

From Stu Williams, Community Development Officer: Hi all! I just wanted to give you a flavour of what your community team get up to in a normal week.

On Monday Hampton Court hosted Hampton Wick primary girls for an amazing visit where the girls had their introduction to golf coached by Yvonne and and the HC team.

Also on Monday, Mill Green hosted Music 24 for their Musical café session to help with their dementia music therapy work. They receive the facility for free and create an amazing environment for both sufferers and carers to relax in our beautiful spaces and create fun music.

On Wednesday Creswick primary school brought their year 5 class for a great morning of golf on the range, par 3 and putting green. They are the sites adopted school for 2022 and looking forward to a great partnership. Thanks to site pros Jack and Olly for the great sessions.

Redlibbets recently hosted their 2nd SEN multi sports afternoon that saw 16 children take part in archery/ boccia/table tennis/golf and pong.

Pyrford Lakes hosted their wreath making event in aid of Age concern Woking.

Sherfield Oaks are hosting the Loddon school staff on Monday to plan 2022 and how we can support our nearest special school.

This month Get Golfing’s community team have worked in partnership with Sherfield Oaks on their member led fundraising campaign for the staff injured in a recent accident. It was a great example of how working together we can achieve more and delivered amazing results in a really quick turnaround.

The online auction kick started the fundraising campaign that culminated in a great golf day that saw over 100 members and guests enjoy the Wellington course and a fun evening organised by Club Captain Guy Wright.

Over 16 thousand pounds was raised thanks to the amazing generosity of the members, those who donated items and all who bid either online or on the night.

An amazing achievement that will help those involved to a speedy recovery.

Club News

From David Harris, General Manager: The run up to Christmas now begins and you will see that the club is getting into the festive spirit with new decorations throughout the clubhouse, some special food and drinks options plus a variety of events on and off the course.

Thanks once again must go out to our Green Keepers led by Richard Hill, it really does make a difference to have such great quality and hardworking team who work tirelessly to keep the course in excellent condition whilst picking up the thousands of leaves that seem to be never-ending. Richard will outline the work they have carried out plus there is are the NEW bunkers that will be starting soon all below.

You will notice that our buggies will be kept on for as long as possible to help assist golfers round the course and to help protect the course they have been set up with geofencing meaning they will stay away from tees, fairways, approaches, and greens. Please can you be mindful if using a buggy and also any trolleys to ensure you keep off these areas where possible to help maintain the standards.

The Clubhouse menu will change from time to time with specials being added, please feel free to visit us any day as we are open from 8am until 5pm and if you are looking to bring a large group of people, please book in advance and we can ensure you have an area or table reserved for you.

Course News

From Richard Hill, Course Manager: As November rolls into December, we find ourselves in a long overdue cold snap. A vast majority of the leaves have now fallen with just the Oak trees really left. We will be continuing to blow, collect, and removing the leaves over the next few weeks. So please, bear with us whilst we try and get this done as quickly as possible. We remove as many leaves as we can, to keep the rough as clean and weed free as possible. This then has a significant impact on the presentation of the rough the following year.

We have been able to needle tine the greens this month and solid tine the approaches and surrounds as well. We have also started to re-shape and increase in size several of the approaches, you will start to see more work taken place on these areas over the coming months. With the result being a very visible difference come the spring to both the size and the shape of the approaches.

As the golf course is about to embark on some significant changes in the new year, at present we are awaiting the start date of the first phase of the bunker renovations, it is a notable change and more information will be available at the right time. Along with the first phase of the bunker renovation, the second phase of the fairway irrigation will begin, again this is scheduled for the New Year.

During the first week of December, we will be carrying out some much-needed maintenance to the hitting area. Whilst we carry out this work, we will be placing some range mats for people to use in front of the driving range. Once the maintenance is complete, we will then be relocating the range mats to the raised section to the back of the driving range for the winter months. This is to keep the Driving range open throughout the winter and give the grass hitting area a rest from the weekly ware and tare of practice and teaching. This will also allow us to continually work on the grass area in preparation for the spring.

England Golf

From David Harris, General Manager

Apologies if you received an email form England Golf regarding the WHS being switched off from Monday 20th December. I met with England Golf Support Officer, Steve Doughty just a few days ago to discuss any outstanding policies and assured them it would be done. It was as much of surprise for you to receive the email as it was for me but please do not fear as the correct documents and paper work has been completed and Hampton Court Palace Golf Club have adopted  the Safeguarding Policies for Children, Adults and Young People.

You will be able to find the relevant information on the main notice boards located by the changing rooms and on our website policy page.

We look forward to seeing over the Christmas season on the golf course.
