Set in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace, the golf club has the enviable accolade of being the only course set in a Royal Park.
The course dates back to 1895 and was “recently” remodelled by Willie Park Junior in 1904 who was careful to make the course a discreet addition to Home Park whilst allowing the golfer wonderful views of the Palace.
This historic 6513 yard par 71 course offers a blend of parkland and links. Built on gravel and hidden in a nook of the Thames, the course is free draining giving it a weather proofed reputation. The course is dominated by symmetrical lines of lime trees and copses of oak. Despite being a little more than ¼ mile from Kingston Upon Thames the course is a tranquil hideaway with 310 inquisitive roaming deer adding to the golf experience.
Hampton Court Palace Golf Club exudes golf heritage and it is this historical preservation that makes the course such a formidable alternative to the U.S styled courses of current times.
The course opens up with three relatively straight forward Par 4’s, which will lure the unsuspecting golfer into a false sense of security, from here the course throws down its challenge. With three finishing holes that rank amongst the best in golf, the course is both challenging and beautifully unique.
From May through to late autumn the wide fairways are framed by long flowering acid grass. Placement from the tee is key – sometimes a long iron or fairway wood is the prudent move.
The golfing experience is contrasted by a new and contemporary style club house with stylish bar, restaurant and beautiful function room. A first class putting green and practice area complete the picture.
